Tell Your Story Through Pictures

Tell Your Story Through Pictures

There is no must in art because art is free.

Storytelling

Storytelling or journaling helps us understand the world we live in. But it doesn’t just involve communicating information through words. Images are equally important.

Drawing in your journal.

Try using drawing in your journal. Drawing is information shown visually. For example, how do you convey an emotion, a thought, an idea, visually? What type of drawing would you use to show what you want to say? You can use a pencil, crayons, markers, or paint to convey your emotion. Would you draw realistically or abstractly to convey your idea? Sometimes visually showing a thought can be easier than writing words.

In some ways it’s like being a child again, when it was instinctive to use drawing or painting to communicate thoughts and ideas without the fear of failure. It can free you up to temporarily shut out the fears and anxieties of everyday as you focus on what you are trying to show.

How to start drawing in your journal.

  • Use a color to represent the emotion you are feeling at the moment.

  • Draw a picture to show a problem you are struggling with.

  • Create random objects, such as shells, leaves, flowers, spices.

  • Make a sketch of your next project.

  • Draw some of your favorite people.

  • Paint with a body part.

  • Doodle.

  • Make a to-do list with pictures.

  • Draw without lifting your pen from your paper.

  • Add your own ideas.

Pick up a pencil and try one of the ideas above in your journal. Ask yourself how you felt about doing that.

Have a creative day,
